Yea these stats are bemusing. How are maternal mortality rates in the America, a developed country, going UP across the board?! And the racial disparity is worrying.


Would be interesting to see the breakdown of maternal mortality by state and perhaps data on other factors surrounding access to care or supply of midwives/OB-GYNs, pandemic etc.

Data that would interesting to see to better understand the issue.

1) the same data for a longer time frame (to better understand Covid's impact)

2) then to see the same data but segmented by socioeconomic factors

3) then (harder to find) would be a cross section of hospital x some measure of relative volume of covid patients vs. socio-economic data
