African countries have been among the most heavily impacted by shortages and rising debts caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the current war in Ukraine.

According to the UN, trade disruption, food and fuel price spikes, macroeconomic instability, and security challenges are among the main direct impacts of the crisis that have particularly affected African countries due to their heavy reliance on imports from Russia and Ukraine.
